Former Grand Drive singer and guitarist Danny George Wilson adopted the band's name, Danny And The Champions Of The World, the title of a children's book, in a seemingly ironic fashion. The themes explored by the band are anything but juvenile - the woes and disappointments of age are a constant subtext. However, the music proves anything but gloomy, the catchiness of the country-hued melodies proving a perfect antidote to the melancholy themes.
